Bella Misty Fishing Charters offers Half Day and Full Day Guided Fishing Charters on Lake Whitney. We fish for Striped Bass, White Bass, Catfish and Crappie. For Stripers and White Bass, we generally use a combination of the techniques below.
DOWNRIGGING
Simply put,
downrigging is controlled depth fishing. This tactic allows you to put the bait
in the strike zone and keep it there. With our multiple rod set up's, we can fish
up to eight different baits at different depths to hone in on what the fish are wanting at that particular time. While the boat
does most of the "fishing", there is still a lot of technique to getting them hooked up and bringing them to
the boat. It is exciting when crew and captain holler out "FISH ON"!!!!!!!!!
LIVE BAIT
Live bait can be another very effective way to fish for Lake Whitney Striped
Bass. Vertically drifting live Shad and Perch is one of our favorite methods of
fishing. We do this by jigging them next to the boat or by using balloon
tactics. Either way, the strikes are usually vicious. There are other
options besides vertical and balloon fishing, another way we fish live bait is on a slow
troll.
SLABS AND SPOONS
Slabing can be a lot of fun when you find the stripers piled up. Slabs and
spoons are fished vertically or casted. The trick here is finding the right presentation. Some times a slow fall
is the trick while other times slowly bumping the slab or spoon on the bottom is where the action is. The one
thing about fishing with slabs and spoon's is when they are working and the fish are on, it's like magic!
Lake Whitney Guided Catfishing
Catfish inhabit almost all the waters of Texas from small ponds and streams to the largest lakes and Gulf of Mexico. They thrive in areas with lots of cover and abundant baitfish. We generally target only two of the many species of catfish that are available. Channel catfish and Blue cats are good fighters and provide excellent table fare. While catfish are predators, they will not pass up an easy meal. They use their excellent sense of smell to locate dead and dying baitfish that have fallen to the bottom. To target them, we mimic this by using baits that have strong odors to tempt them into biting. These are commonly called "stink baits", but we also use cut bait such as shad, perch, and liver. Catfish are also commonly taken on live perch, crawfish, grasshoppers, and earthworms. As mentioned earlier, catfish love structure. Bridge pilings, submerged timber, undercut banks, and rocky outcroppings are good places to start looking for catfish. Generally, if you can find good structure close to a deep hole there will be catfish in the area. When going after catfish, we usually leave in the late evening and fish from sundown until Midnight or so. Bella Misty is equipped for navigation after dark and has a well lit deck. If you really want a challenge, ask us about fishing for trophy Flathead Catfish on rod and reel. For these large, hard fighting fish, patience is the name of the game but can be very rewarding.
Lake Whitney Guided Crappie Fishing
Crappie
fishing is all about knowing where the fish are! We work hard to have this
information! Things change day to day, and time on the water Crappie fishing is
the only way to stay on top of them. We use several methods to catch slabs. One
is keeping up our crappie condos. Crappie condos are artificial
structure and brush piles placed in areas of the lake with the sole
purpose of gathering fish. During the spawn, creeks and spawn beds are the
target, but the rest of the year is when things are a little less
"EASY"! Different times of the year Crappie will go from deep to
shallow water, knowing where they are going and having structure in those areas
help to give us a BIG edge!!!! Lake Whitney Crappie fishing can be spectacular.
All seasons of the year present good Crappie fishing IF you can find them. We
Crappie fish on Navarro Mills Lake, Lake Aquilla and Lake Whitney the
most. Knowing when to go, what time to be there and how to fish for
Crappie makes them a great game fish. And by the way NOTHING taste's better than
Crappie!
